Each year surgical residents take ABSITE, American Board of Surgery In-Training Examination, a test to gauge the knowledge of surgical residents in clinical and basic sciences. It is intended to serve as an objective measure of resident knowledge to determine competency for progression in the program. Absite.org is a forum for surgical residents with review material and practice exam, written for general review for ABSITE. Every concept in questions or tutorials on this site has been on absite in some form in the past (high yield) - unlike many other review materials that randomly bring questions from texts (low yield). The content of reviews will focus mainly on Clinical and Basic Science. The exam module is flexible and can be taken timed or untimed. This is not a comprehensive review or a reference text book, but it focuses on high yield facts repeated each year on ABSITE to save time for busy surgical residents. We recommend Sabiston, Cameron, Schwartz, or Greenfield surgical text books for comprehensive readings in general surgery. The software is divided into Tutorial, Examination, and Forum (Discussion Froum, Chat and Classified) sections. Since much of the information in ABSITE is repeated each year, Tutorial will highlight high yield material that has been gathered by residents over the past years. The Examination is designed to solidify the information in Tutorial. These questions are designed to be similar to those in ABSITE. A discussion forum, and an online chat service are designed to make this site interactive for surgical residents. As a service to the surgical community, Absite.org is providing a free classifed section for job posting, books sales, and more. We hope to create an atmosphere for the surgical residents where they can exchange ideas easily.
